An Incredible First Teacher — Meet Ms. Hutras

At Eagle Elementary of Akron, a tuition-free K-5 public charter school, we know that the first years of a child’s education are pivotal to their success. That’s why we are so thrilled to have Vanessa Hutras as a wonderful role model, guide, and dedicated teacher for our kindergarten students. Let’s learn more about Ms. Hutras and her passion for teaching.

How long have you been teaching and when did you know you wanted to be a teacher?

I have been teaching for 3 years! This is my second year teaching at Eagle Elementary. I have known that I wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl. I have two brothers and I would always have them play "school" with me. As I got older, my passion for learning grew stronger as did my love for children so I knew this was the perfect career choice for me!

Who was your favorite teacher and why?

This is a tough question! I was lucky to have amazing teachers when I was in school. The first one to come to mind is my first-grade teacher Miss Conkle. She was the kindest lady and was always so patient and loving. I truly loved going to school every day just to see her! My love for reading began that year when she would work one on one with me. I gained so much confidence because she always believed in me.

What do you love most about teaching Kindergarten?

The best thing about teaching kindergarten is seeing the progress that each of my students makes throughout the year. It's truly amazing to see how much they learn and grow, both academically and socially. I love instilling an early enthusiasm for learning that will stay with them for years to come. I just enjoy being around young children in general! They always keep me laughing and remind me of what’s truly important in life. Their innocence and joy are contagious, and I feel grateful to be able to experience it every day.

Each day brings new challenges and opportunities for learning. Teaching kindergarten is truly a rewarding experience!

What are your primary goals for each Kindergarten class?

My primary goal for each kindergarten class is for them to really love coming to school every day! I focus on building relationships and building up their self-esteem first so that they are motivated to learn. Kindergarten allows each of my students to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, and problem-solving skills that they will use throughout their schooling.

How do your personal values align with those of Eagle Elementary of Akron?

My personal values align with those of Eagle Elementary because I believe that all students should receive high-quality education, personal growth, and a safe positive environment to reach their highest potential! We all believe that the development of self-respect, self-worth, and self-esteem can drastically improve a child's outlook on not only themselves but also the world around them.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time, I love to read, bake, garden, watch movies with my fiancé, and spend time with my family and friends!
